Egypt win African Women's Volleyball Championship, secure Olympic berth

The final of the CAVB Women's Volleyball African Nations Championship ended with a dominant 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) of Egypt over Kenya. With this result, Egypt not only claimed the continental title but also secured the sole African berth for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics – the first time in history that Egyptian women's volleyball will compete at the Olympic Games. The tournament, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, featured 12 top African teams. Under the 3-point system (3-0/3-1 wins) and 2-point system (3-2 wins), every match was crucial in the race for Olympic and World Cup qualification. Egypt went undefeated throughout the group stage and knockout rounds, not losing a single set, demonstrating tactical and physical superiority. In the final, Egypt fielded its strongest lineup. Star attacker Nada Ahmed Houssameldein (Meawad) scored 14 points, including 2 kill blocks and 1 ace. Mariam Metwally Mohamed Morsy (Meeto) added 12 points as an effective offensive option on the right wing. For Kenya, Veronica Adhiambo Oluoch led with 11 points (2 aces, 1 block), while Elizabeth Marian Sokoiyo had 10 points, but it was not enough to change the outcome. Cameroon, despite losing the semifinal to Kenya, won bronze by defeating Morocco, earning its second consecutive World Cup berth. From a tactical perspective, Egypt displayed cohesive play, capitalizing on better average height. Head coach Ahmed Elshamy built a solid defensive system with quick middle attacks and flexible wing attacks. The only weakness was second-ball handling under strong serves, but blocking compensated effectively. Physically, Egyptian players showed endurance throughout the tournament, with no signs of fatigue in later sets, thanks to professional training and thorough preparation. Kenya, however, showed signs of exhaustion in the third set, losing coordination in long rallies. The impact on African volleyball is significant. For the first time, three African women's teams will participate in the two biggest global events (Olympics and World Cup) in the same cycle.
